Chapter 18 - Cameron

All night, I watched Levi sulk in typical Levi fashion. At the bar, I was aback when he got up and found a new seat further away from me, but I figured he wanted some alone time until Tucker's friend Mads started chatting him up. He happily talked with her for a couple of hours. I couldn't fault him for that, though. We'd been stuck together for a few days and he probably needed some space. That was a good thing, wasn't it?

Tucker was fun to talk to, anyway. He had a lot of crazy stories about living on the road, hitchhiking to remote locations, and meeting people from all over the world. He was the kind of person I could talk to for days and never get bored with the conversation. But he'd made it abundantly clear all evening that he was interested in me. I enjoyed the flirting - who didn't love knowing someone was into them? The small touches didn't bother me, either. I was a contact person. So I let him continue his advances, though I wasn't going to do anything with him.

But I wasn't so sure Levi knew that. I looked over to where he sat in front of the fire, stewing. Every time Tucker leaned in closer to tell me something or his hand touched my skin, I noticed Levi's jaw clench. It wouldn't have been noticeable if I hadn't already spent enough time staring at him while he drove. I knew jealousy when I saw it. And Levi was a man full of it.

Which was...interesting. I'd assumed that the previous night's fun was a one-time thing, that Levi just needed to blow off some steam or something. Now, I wasn't so sure. Did he want a repeat? Did he want more? Did he want me? I found it harder and harder to focus on Tucker. Levi played a good game. He joined in the conversation with the other people around the campfire. I wondered if he'd be having some real fun if Tucker was out of the situation. Or if I'd made it clear from the beginning that I didn't want more than friendly conversation with Tucker.

Levi was jealous, which was funny because I hadn't led Tucker on. Yeah, I'd flirted back, but I hadn't made any indications that I was up for anything more than that. Tucker knew that too, even if he kept up the game. He wasn't being pushy, he was just being a flirt. It was cute, truly, but I wasn't about to hook up with someone I'd only just met. Some people were fine with that. I just didn't see the appeal.

Plus, how could I even think about hooking up with Tucker when Levi was right there, looking gorgeous as ever in the firelight? The flames reflected in his eyes. What would they look like if he let loose the inner fire I knew he kept hidden? That thought was enough to have me standing up from the boulder I'd been sitting on with Tucker.
